My Lux Lavender Love Story
Love stories rarely begin with the end but my love affair with Lux Lavender could not be more different. To me, Lavender has always been a generic and ubiquitous scent, used in almost every aspect when things need a little freshening. It was only at the climax of this amazing trip with Lux Lavender that my passion for the scent was once again reignited, connecting me once again to this rich, luscious yet simple aroma.
Our adventure with Lux Lavender came to a most beautiful conclusion with a trip to the famed lavender fields of Valensole in Provence. It was picturesque, almost postcard like! We were greeted by neat rows of green and purple bushes, waving in the breeze as if to say "Welcome". The beautiful fields provided an incredible fully fledged sensory experience - a soothing sight with its various shades of purple and grey, as well as pure nasal delight once the wind picked up and made its way through the fields of lavender.
As I frolicked in the beautiful fields and taking in all its joy and wonder, a gust of wind suddenly blew past and in that instant, I was hit with one of the most powerful scents I could remember. It was in that exact moment when I breathed in that fresh lavender air that my love for the scent was reignited. It made me instantly recollect how powerful a role this delicate plant plays in the aromatherapy world. And then it came upon me like an epiphany, as I finally connected the dots of the whirlwind of activities organized by the Lux Team for us over the last few days, instantly awashed with a deep sense of passion and understanding for Lavender.
As I looked back with a new found sense of understanding for this amazing plant, memories of our meeting with Lux Master Perfumer, Calice Becker at the Lux Fragrance Summit just a few days earlier, were stirred. She asked if we could discern what makes the Lux scent so unique. As we were brought through a course of how to create a scent through the balancing of top, middle and base notes, we were also challenged to recreate the iconic Lux scent. It was by no means an easy feat, reminding me just how a simple effortless scent like Lavender can be dissected and put back together to create a smell that is truly iconic.
Effortlessness - a word that truly describes not only Lavender, but perhaps the embodiment of the sense of style of the women of France. As we sat down with Loren Fascianel for the Style Session, we were given a lesson on how a typical Parisian girl styles her wardrobe. Elegant yet unassuming, stunning yet effortless, a simple motto that has been the guiding principle for Lux Fragrance to follow in its journey to create its iconic scent.
As the sound of a buzzing bee brought my daydreaming thoughts to an abrupt end, I looked around at the endless rows of swaying Lavender bathing in the warm sunset glow, feeling an intense surge of connection to this small purple unassuming plant like never before. These few days had made me reignite my love for the scent, providing me with the education necessary to truly appreciate the wonders of the soul of Lux Fragrances. I will certainly look back fondly on this extremely memorable experience and words cannot express how grateful I am for the Lux Team to have considered me as a living embodiment of the brand.
